I must say both Teams tried really hard....... to lose the match!
I remember our Physics teacher in school telling us , in response to a despairing query from a worried classmate, that one has to try really hard to fail that 10th Std Exams(we were in an ICSE School). Then it only added to our confusion and we wondered why the Physics teacher had to always respond in vague astrophysical terms, even to a "real" question.
After watching the T20 Match at Mohali, I was finally able to understand the answer our visionary Physics teacher had stumped us with all those years ago! Heres how.....
For starters, the 4 catches in Nagpur was the tip of the iceberg. In their quest for continuous improvement, India dropped 5 more at Mohali and then raised the bar(pun intended?) by a flawless exhibition of horrendous running between the wickets . The batsmen decided to take a walk in the park, rather than run like hares between the wickets. India tried their best... to be the generous hosts !And this is where the SL Team came to the party ! I have a lurking feeling that they were actuely embarrassed by their hosts generosity and largesse, and wanted to do their bit to show what good guests they were! This , as my son would testify is appropriate behaviour, cause there needs to be a return gift for coming to any party!!What else can explain the ball leaving the SL fielders hand like lightning but not hitting the timber even once when it mattered! The Indian batsmen had given up 4 times( Sehwag twice and once each by Dhoni and Gautam), in the mid pitch , but the SL Team made a hash of it. Add to it players like Dilshan and Jayasuria dropping catches and the dropped catch of Dhoni when he was on one and you begin to wonder if SL had outdone India at the generosity stakes!!
Remember you have to really work hard to fail?? Must say both Teams tried real hard!!!
