I must say both Teams tried really hard....... to lose the match!
I remember our Physics teacher in school telling us , in response to a despairing query from a worried classmate, that one has to try really hard to fail that 10th Std Exams(we were in an ICSE School). Then it only added to our confusion and we wondered why the Physics teacher had to always respond in vague astrophysical terms, even to a "real" question.
After watching the T20 Match at Mohali, I was finally able to understand the answer our visionary Physics teacher had stumped us with all those years ago! Heres how.....
For starters, the 4 catches in Nagpur was the tip of the iceberg. In their quest for continuous improvement, India dropped 5 more at Mohali and then raised the bar(pun intended?) by a flawless exhibition of horrendous running between the wickets . The batsmen decided to take a walk in the park, rather than run like hares between the wickets. India tried their best... to be the generous hosts !And this is where the SL Team came to the party ! I have a lurking feeling that they were actuely embarrassed by their hosts generosity and largesse, and wanted to do their bit to show what good guests they were! This , as my son would testify is appropriate behaviour, cause there needs to be a return gift for coming to any party!!What else can explain the ball leaving the SL fielders hand like lightning but not hitting the timber even once when it mattered! The Indian batsmen had given up 4 times( Sehwag twice and once each by Dhoni and Gautam), in the mid pitch , but the SL Team made a hash of it. Add to it players like Dilshan and Jayasuria dropping catches and the dropped catch of Dhoni when he was on one and you begin to wonder if SL had outdone India at the generosity stakes!!
Remember you have to really work hard to fail?? Must say both Teams tried real hard!!!

Hi Ramesh
ReplyDeleteWhich Physics teacher was this? Thomas Paul?
Frankly your blog may not get too many followers. The way cricket has been going, it is certain - if it not already has - to lose its following. Remember the days when we used to bunk classes to watch Gavaskar bat. Cherian Thomas's house was the closest to school and we used to rush to his house during lunch time. I do not see the same enthu in the current generation. May be it is still there in Jamshedpur. And yesterday's match was another towards death. Who would like to be a bowler these days.
See... it was Yuvi's birthday. So Ind and SL team think tank got together to decide to give him a surprise party. So they started thinking (tough job for cricketers). Then they came upon an idea that how to create a situation where Yuvi can come and do what he likes to do the best.... hit pedestrian deliveries for huge over boundary hits. and As an Icing on the Cake Gary Kirsten suggested ...lets also let India win. To this Bhajji suggested that Indian fielders should drop catches so that Yuvi's fielding (a pale shadow of the past), looks the best on the field...hence they dropped catches. Then Viru, Gauti and MS decided to add an incentive by making Yuvi's running between the wickets look the best... to this Dilshan and Co. grew jealous and they too wanted to make Yuvi feel special by dropping their fielding standards below par. All In All, it was "Happy Birthday to the Spoilt Prince" who emerged as the best fielder, best bowler, best runner betn. the wickets and of course the best batsman... the MoM (mgr of ngr nahin), Man of the match.... Mission Accomplished. And they all walked into the horizon into the setting Moon (Day and night no), and lived happily ever after. Why fuss?
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the world of blogging! Way to go!! How about something on the cricket gaffes of the decade - the 'Chetan Sharma Moments' ?
